Being an airline pilot, made in Holland and traveling across the globe, I try to show her colorful beauty. Together with my Iphone, or camera, I walk through cities and meet their inhabitants, their cultures, their specialties. No matter which color or religion you have, everybody is unique, as this world is too !

Via this page I take you to Myanmar (Birma), New York (USA), Almaty (Kazachstan), Cartagena (Colombia), Japan (Osaka, Hiroshima, Tokyo and Kyoto), Chicago (USA), Bogotá (Colombia), Hongkong, Ushuaia (Argentina), Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) and Cape Town (South Africa).

As my journey continues, more countries & cities will follow ..... !

MYANMAR, Birma

Who makes a journey through Burma, will immediately notice how respectful citizens interact. That goes even for their extremely welcoming attitude towards foreigners. The friendly people of the former British colony are a special mixture of Burmese, Indians, Chinese and various hill tribes. A land dotted with numerous historic temples and golden pagodas, beautiful landscapes, many vestiges of colonial architecture and tropical palm beaches.

After a week traveling through Birma, we returned with deep admiration for her people, who maintain their dignity under difficult circumstances. Mesmerized by the country’s pure character and an atmosphere tasting authentic Southeast Asia. Birma, now called Myanmar, is unique. The forgotten pearl of Asia puts her hand out to the world ...

ALMATY, Kazachstan

Almaty, a little grou city, less photogenic, therefore more challenging to try to make colorful pictures. Almaty means "rich in apples" and its people are a very special blend, where Chinese and Russian DNA mix. Never start on Borat, cause here they are not happy with him cause in their eyes he expressed Kazakhstan on a wrong way. Almaty is the largest city with 1.5 million inhabitants in Kazakhstan, the largest country in Central Asia. Did you know that the territory west of the Ural River is considered one of Europe? A small impression of this city in four seizons time...

Cartagena, Colombia

It might become the latest hot spot on the Caribbean Sea. Founded in 1533 and then for a long time an important link between Spain and South America. After a major refurbishment the city in 1984 was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage. Winding streets scented bougainvillea colonial houses inhabited by cute little old ladies, patches salsa music carried by the wind - Cartagena is nostalgia at its best. I explored the city by foot. Over the old city wall, breathtaking at sunrise, putting the pastel painted houses in a golden glow. I slentered through parks where coffee vendors and gum sellers are doing brisk business, past the cathedral, Santo Domingo convent, the home of writer Gabriel Garcia Marques, the Palace of the Inquisition and countless other colonial buildings and houses. Dozens of boutique hotels, which this old part is rich, providing with their courtyards, a unique atmosphere as darkness falls.

Bogotá, Colombia

Bogotá is Colombia's beating heart, an engaging and vibrant capital cradled by chilly Andean peaks and steeped in sophisticated urban cool. A melting pot of people from around the country, it is diverse and multicultural, with a blend of modern and colonial architecture. The city's cultural epicenter is La Candelaria, the cobbled historic downtown to which most travelers gravitate. Here, a potpourri of preciously preserved colonial buildings house museums, restaurants, hotels and bars peppered amid 300-year-old homes, churches and convents.

HONGKONG

Ushuaia, Argentina

Who doesn't remember the history lessons at school. About the VOC and the WIC (West Indian Company). Real heroes in search for adventure, trade and exotic spices in distant lands. Those who were months, years on their way, brave fiercing seas and storms off Cape Horn. Or during geography lessons, some extra attention when it came to talk about Tierra del Fuego? Or lessons in biology, as it was about Darwin and his theory ?

It has always aroused my curiosity ! Fortunately Jaap and I got the chance to jump on a plane from Buenos Aires, and in 34 hours time to discover 'the end of the world. " Where three school subjects come together. And although the present youth hearing about Ushuaia is thinking of the hippest clubs of Ibiza, this city is the southernmost in the world ! Located in Tierra del Fuego, the Beagle Street, named after the ship on which Darwin went on discovery and sailed through. A short distance from Cape Horn, named in 1616 to the northern Dutch town of Hoorn.

Ushuaia, gateway to Antarctica, town with very hospitable Argentines and potential as Cape Town. A small impression:
